Course Descriptions:
LDR 100 Principles of Leadership
This course covers the basic principles of leadership. Topics include differentiation of groups and teams; empowerment and effective delegation; diversity challenge and cultural sensitivity; and the role of leader as teacher.
LDR 110 Self-Development
Real leadership is not about power, authority, popularity, or a position. Nor is it simply about acquiring certain techniques or skills. Authentic and sustainable leadership requires one to lead from within – i.e. leading with the heart and soul. And this cannot be achieved without one going through constant self-reflection and development from within. Using multiple and interactive approaches, this workshop explores the importance and ways of self development in bringing about true leadership that makes lasting impact on themselves, on the people they try to lead, and on those around them.
LDR 200 Biblical Worldview and Life Span Development
This course is to study selected leadership characters as illustrated in the Bible and to apply contemporary leadership concepts in those character studies. Students are expected to have taken LDR 110 and LDR 120 before enrolling in this course.
LDR 210 Project/Practicum
Students are expected to participate in the planning and development of a project/program as directed by the instructor. The choice of the project/program will be determined by the instructor.
SDV 100 Effective Communication Skills
The objective of this course is to enhance student’s competence in basic interpersonal communication skills. Differences in oral and written communication skills will be emphasized as well as the skills in email communications.
SDV 110 Public Speaking
Introduces students to the principles of public speaking techniques. Skills in developing a dynamic verbal profile and confidence in oral presentations will be covered. Students will be expected in delivering a variety of speeches, e.g. commemorative, informative, demonstration, and persuasive speeches. Students are expected to have taken SDV 100 and SDV 110 before enrolling in this course.
SDV 120 The Mentor and the Mentee
The concepts of mentorship will be examined in this course. Students will be presented with the various roles and types of a mentor and ways to understand your mentees to enhance the relationship in a mentorship.
SDV 130 Understanding Your Community
This course combines an introduction to basic concepts of communities with real-life examples of application to understanding community problems and concerns. The focus is on youth community with emphasis on cultural aspects.
SDV 140 Interactive Interview Skills
Interview techniques will be the focus on this course which provides students with the basic concepts in preparation of the interview process as well as the interviewee.
OPG 100 Game Design
A study of designing instructional games that carry a message for discussions at the end of the game. Debriefing techniques will also be reviewed.
OPG 110 Team Building
Introduces the concepts and techniques in building an effective team. Topics also include the review of determinants of team decisions – traditional and group-centered approaches; and conducting efficient meetings.
OPG 120 First Aid (Certificate)
MMD 100 Mass Media in Culture and Society
Participants will examine the difficulties of discerning the information in the extremely fast speed hi-tech world. In this course an attempt is made to start a conversation on struggles that we encounter as we stand firm for the core values against divert values. This course will provide an opportunity for deeper reflective thinking on expressions of social concern.
MMD 110 Music Appreciation
A survey course designed to encourage a higher degree of understanding and enjoyment of various kinds of music. Students will also be introduced to basic music terminology and notations.
MMD 120 Movie Appreciation
Each film is a living body on its own waiting to be heard. It has its own language and an aesthetic all of its own. To truly appreciate and understand hidden messages of film, we will need to go deeper into the building blocks of the film language. In this course, we will have an overview of the different elements that makes up a film, films of different genre and how cinema from around the world can widen our horizon to different cultures.
MMD 140 Production Planning and Development
The course is designed to provide students with a basic understanding of the principles of production in audio, video, and film. It will cover theories and practical aspects of the topics. Collaborative process in the organizational skills involved in pre-production, production and postproduction will also be discussed.
MMD 150 Digital AV Technology
This course examines the various types of digital audio-video technologies and how each can be used effectively in selected situation. Additional practical hours may be required for this course.
MMD 160 Internet Media Technology
Students will be introduced to the media technology used on the Internet. Topics include streaming technology, graphics, and basic web design for efficiency. Additional practical hours may be required for this course.
