Congratulations ChrisB Liu for receiving the 6th Annual York Region Character Community Character Through the Arts Award! ChrisB is one of our inspiring members of Across U-hub. Through a creative and interactive approach, ChrisB has been facilitating innovative arts and design workshops for youth since 2006. She is passionate in inspiring and encouraging youth to nurture their personal interconnectedness with other, the nature and the world through art.
At Across U-hub, we are proud of our great volunteers who strive to serve youth in our community every day. On 25th April, 2012, our volunteers Sammy Lee, Cecilia Leung, Joyce Mak, Jonathan Mok, and Ken Tai were nominated for the 6th Annual York Region Character Community Award.
Sammy Lee - Citizens of Character nominee
Sammy is passionate about serving youth and strongly believes that young people need a good piece of soil to grow. By providing suitable opportunities and a platform for them, Sammy hopes to walk alongside them, in the hope that together they can continue to bring positive impacts to the world.
Cecilia Leung - Citizens of Character nominee
Cecilia had volunteered her time and effort with Across U-hub since 2002 serving youth, helping them to become young leaders in the community. Cecilia is dedicated to serving youths because she wishes to share her personal experience to mentor those longing for encouragement, support and care.
Joyce Mak – Change our World - Community nominee
Joyce is a committed volunteer at Across U-hub. Active in the community, Joyce combined her expertise in education and psychology to mentoring children in education and psychology to mentoring children and young people with learning disabilities in York Region.
Jonathan Mok – Citizens of Character nominee
Although very buys with his Grade 12 student life, Jonathan has not ceased to be a volunteer at Across U-hub averaging over 250 hours each year. Taking a leading role in the Tic-Tac-Toronto program’s planning team, he helps to organize local food festival, tree plantings and other environment initiatives.
Ken Tai - Citizens of Character nominee
Ken had volunteered his time and efforts with Across U-hub for almost 10 years, helping youth to become young leaders in different areas of the community. As a professional architect working for the town of Markham since 2008, Ken is dedicated to building a better city that he and his family live in.
Several other nominations include Across U-hub for Organization of Character, ‘Refeel’ soft skill development program for Character Through the Arts, and Tic-Tac-Toronto for Change our World – Community.
The Annual York Region Character Community Awards are given to volunteers who have made significant contributions to the community in York Region. The award was presented by the Character Community at the Richmond Hill Center for the Performing Arts on 25th April, 2012. Congratulations to all of you!
On 11thApril, 2011 Kitty Chan and Diana Lam were nominated for the 2011 Volunteer Toronto Legacy Award in honour of the important contributions made by them to the community and legacy of volunteering in Toronto.
Both Kitty and Diana had volunteered their time and efforts with Across U-hub for more than 10 years, serving youth and helping them to become young leaders in different area of the community.
Diana has been the camp director of Across U-hub’s annual “Youth Leadership Training Camp” since 2005. Each year, she heads up to lead a group of 20-25 youth leaders to take on various leadership role such as program manager, marketing manager, administration manager etc.
Being the leader of marketing team since 2005, Kitty has trained up over 40 young people with solid marketing skills such as media coordination, organizing press conferences, press release writing and public speaking, equipping them to become youth leaders through on-site training in various events and program planning.
Both Diana and Kitty volunteers over 250 hours every year at Across U-hub.
Kitty and Diana have received certificate of nomination from Deborah Gardner, executive director of Volunteer Toronto.
